Abstract:
We shall discuss seasonal variations of the cosmic multi-muon flux observed by the NOvA detectors, optimised to study the neutrino oscillations. While the multi-muon event rate has maximum in the winter, annual oscillation of the single-muon flux peaks during the summer. Winter maximum of the multi-muon flux variation can be understood theoretically, although, a quantitative disagreement (factor 2x) with experimental observations still needs to be clarified. Tests of the stochasticity of the cosmic muon arrivals in a large detector will be presented using the Erlang distributions.
A possible existence of the systematic track curvature for very seldom transverse-polarised muons, moving through the scintillating detector medium (at negligible geo-magnetic field), will be shortly discussed in relation to the conjectural existence of the muon Anapole moment.
The seminar will be held at FZU (Slovanka) in the main conference hall.
