Description
Abstract:
Georg Placzek (1905-1955) was one of the pioneers of quantum physics, Niels Bohr’s assistant, and the only Czecoslovakia citizen who became a part of the Manhattan Project during the WWII. After his untimely death Placzek and his scientific contributions were essentially forgotten in the West. Aleš Gottvald and I collected unknown archive documents shedding light on his adventurous life and some of the “Placzek’s stories” and published them in a recent book "George Placzek: A Nuclear Physicist's Odyssey”.
