Nanoscale physics of perovskite materials observed by optical micro-spectroscopy: from quantum dots to films 50m

All-inorganic, as well as organic-inorganic hybrid halide perovskites are one of the most promising class of semiconductors for new generation of energy conversion and optoelectronic applications. While there has been tremendous technological progress in device development, especially in the field of perovskite solar cells, the advancement of the knowledge of fundamental photophysical properties of perovskite materials, which is equally important for further progress of the field has been lacking behind. This contribution reports on the study of nanoscale structural and optical properties of various perovskite materials, ranging from nanocrystals, to 2D/3D heterostructures and to mixed cation perovskite films, using single-molecule fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy. The use of this technique helps to uncover properties that are otherwise inaccessible using conventional characterization methods. Specifically, we examine the origin of photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) blinking in individual perovskite nanocrystals, monitor in real time nanocrystal formation and ion migration in perovskite-metal organic frameworks composites, observe dynamic restructuring at the interface between 2D and 3D perovskite nanostructures, and study nanoscale structural heterogeneity and properties in a series of mixed cation halide perovskite films.

Advanced Solar Cells: Entering the bifacial n-type era: technology and production landscape 50m

The photovoltaic (PV) industry is poised for significant expansion as we enter the bifacial n-type era, anticipating a continuing exponential growth trajectory. By 2027, the global PV market is expected to achieve an annual installation rate of one terawatt (TW), underscoring the sector's accelerating momentum. Central to this surge is the adoption of bifacial n-type technology, which offers superior efficiency and durability compared to traditional p-type PV cells. This technological shift is set to revolutionize solar energy production, enabling more effective harnessing of solar power from both sides of the panel. Manufacturing will be geographically diversified, with significant production capacities emerging in China, India, the United States, the European Union, Latin America (LATAM), and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions. This global distribution of production facilities will enhance supply chain resilience and foster regional expertise. Additionally, localized manufacturing is expected to stimulate economic growth and job creation in these regions. As bifacial n-type technology becomes the industry standard, it will drive down costs and improve the overall sustainability of solar power. Consequently, the PV industry's transition to this advanced technology marks a pivotal step towards a more sustainable and energy-independent future.

Advanced Solar Cells 2: Hitting the efficiency roof top of single junction c-Si tech: Cu contacted bifacial XBC technology 50m

As the photovoltaic (PV) industry evolves beyond the dominance of TOPCon technology, it will enter the bifacial XBC (back-contact) era in 4-5 years from now, achieving new efficiency heights. PV cells and modules are projected to reach efficiency ceilings of 27% and 25%, respectively, marking a significant leap in performance standards. Bifacial XBC technology, which optimizes energy capture from both sides of the solar panel, is set to become the predominant technology, maintaining its leadership for an extended period before tandem technologies emerge in the market. A crucial development in this transition is the replacement of silver (Ag) with copper (Cu) screen printing, which significantly reduces costs and improves sustainability. The adoption of Cu screen printing is essential for making high-efficiency solar cells more economically viable and environmentally friendly. AIKO and ISC Konstanz are at the forefront of these advancements, organizing the bifacial XBC Workshop bifiPV2024 in China on November 27-28. This event will bring together industry experts and researchers to explore the latest developments and future trajectories of bifacial XBC technology. The workshop aims to foster collaboration, drive innovation, and accelerate the widespread adoption of this cutting-edge technology. As bifacial XBC technology will become the new industry standard, it will solidify solar energy's role as a key component of sustainable energy solutions, pushing the boundaries of efficiency and reliability in the PV sector.

Information and Imaging, Electrons and Light 1 50m

In electron microscopy, it is crucial to minimize dose in order to prevent
electron-induced specimen damage. We will discuss an information theoretical
approach to quantifying the information that can be obtained about
certain parameters of interest in a given microscope. We will then present results
on optical wave-front shaping and optical near-field electron microscopy
and will discuss how these techniques can help to reduce damage in electron
        microscopy.
