Abstract:
Supergravity is a theoretical framework that extends Einstein's general relativity by including supersymmetry, a particular symmetry that relates particles with integer spin (bosons) and half-integer spin (fermions).
In this talk, I will discuss the main motivations for supergravity, from the early attempts to resolve inconsistencies between quantum mechanics and general relativity, to its relation with string theory. I will then give an overview of the construction of supergravity theories, highlighting the mathematical foundations and key ideas.
The seminar will be held in the Dvořák hall, FZU, Na Slovance 2, Prague (entrance from the street "Pod Vodárenskou věží 1").
